1. Make your starting chainChain 15. Try to keep the loops relaxed and similar in size; a tight chain makes the first row harder.

2. Work the first rowSingle crochet (US terminology) into the second chain from the hook, then into each remaining chain. You should have 14 single crochet stitches.

3. Turn for the next rowChain 1 and turn the work. Single crochet once into each of the 14 stitches across. Count your stitches at the end.

4. Keep building a squareRepeat the previous row, turning each time, until the piece is approximately as tall as it is wide. Your row count will depend on your yarn and tension.

5. Fasten off and finishCut the yarn leaving a tail, pull the tail through the final loop, and weave in the loose ends with a yarn needle. Smooth the edges gently.
